Repairing a Leaking Washing Machine

A leaking washing machine can be very frustrating for homeowners but you don’t have to worry since it is usually a quick fix that any amateur is capable of completing. This article will explain how you can repair a leaking washing machine by explaining the most common washing machine leaks.
Firstly, you must know what type of washing machine you have. There are belt drive and direct drive washing machines. You have a direct drive washing machine when you open up the cabinet and don’t find any belts. Repairs are generally easier for direct drive washing machines. Also, make sure that the water on the floor isn’t because of a plugged floor drain instead of a leaking washing machine.
The first step to repairing a leaking washing machine is to locate the leak. You should move the washing machine from the wall and empty it before starting the fill cycle. When the washing machine fills with water, look for drips around the water supply hose. If there are drips around the water supply hose, shut off the water and start removing the old corroded hoses and then replace them. If the hoses are in good working condition, you may only need to replace the internal washers.
Alternatively, if the supply hoses aren’t the location of the leak, look inside the washing machine so you can identify leaking internal hoses. You will need to unscrew the access panel of the washing machine so you can inspect the internal parts. When you have opened the cabinet, restart the fill cycle and then look for any internal leaks. If the hoses are leaking, remove the spring clamp with pliers. Then replace the old spring clamp with a new one. It the hose is actually cracked you will need to remove it and take it to the washing machine supplier for a replacement.
