Fitting a New Basin

Position The Basin:
Place the basin up against the wall and make the marks for the new fixing points. You may need some help to do this. Make sure it is level and the correct height. Put the basin on the floor on a protective cloth to stop any damage. Southwark Plumbers fit basins.

Assemble Taps and Waste:
Make sure you follow the manufacturer’s instructions at every stage.
Fit the taps on the basin. Check the direction of the tap before you finally tighten. Fit the waste outlet into the basin and secure in place. Some are mounted on a rubber gasket, with others needing a seating compound or sealant. This seals so that water flows inside the waste pipe rather than the outside. There are some modern taps that come with small tailpipes which are fitted at the same time. If not, you may find this fit a lot easier if you connect a small length of copper tube to each tap. The tails should be carefully shaped before connection to make sure that they line up with the supply pipes. A Southwark Plumber is a trained professional and carries all the correct tools to install a new basin.

Fix The Basin and Connect The Pipes:
Fit the basin into position using the appropriate brackets and screws. The majority use a rubber washer for each fixing screw. This stops cracking the basin as the screws are tightened up. Next connect the hot and cold pipes to the tails fitted before. The connection used, is up to you, but keep direct heat away from the basin. You may choose to fit a small stop valve. This can also be your connecting piece and provide means of isolation for the supply. Make up the waste trap and connect to the waste pipe.
